Design Approach
"Fair is foul, and foul is fair: Hover through the fog and filthy air.”
Macbeth exists between the real world and the increasingly heightened world of Macbeth’s imagination. We wanted the production to feel atmospheric, brutal, and grand; a world where power is seductive, but its pursuit has very real consequences.
The heart of the design is centered around two large concentric rings that draw the attention upward and center the action. The audience is seated around the space, while crossover space is hidden behind them by foliage curtains. This world surrounds the audience and is meant to both draw them in, while not allowing anyone to get too comfortable.
This Scenic Design won first place at SETC's Graduate Design Competition in 2016
