Design Approach
"I wanna go to the late night, double feature, picture show.”
The scenic design for The Rocky Horror Show draws heavily from the visual language of vintage horror films, particularly the heightened Gothic world of Hammer Horror. Beyond celebrating this aesthetic, we wanted the world to feel immersive and to embrace the weird and wonderful relationship between the audience and the action. A catwalk extends the scenic world into the house, surrounding portions of the audience and bringing the performers into the middle of the space. The result celebrates the excess of classic horror while giving Frank and the other characters a suitably strange and decadent world to inhabit.
